Kailey came home from seminary two years ago
after President Monson made his famous announcement in General Conference,
and informed us she was going on a mission. At first I thought her enthusiasm would pass and in a few months she would decide to stay home and go to college. However, when she started her senior year in 2013, she was still planning to go on a mission and was making serious plans in that direction.
In March, 2014, Thad and I were at a Doterra Leadership Training Meeting in Phoenix when Kailey called to ask for our credit card number so she could register for a pre-mission program at BYU-ID. With Erica's help Kailey enrolled in the second spring term designed for freshman going on missions.
She attended there until July 23rd, then came home to prepare for her mission.
Well....she's definitely going on a mission. This is us on September 24th at the MTC.
This is what I love about Kailey - when she wants something, she makes it happen.
It was the same for learning to whistle, riding a bike, and doing a perfect cartwheel.
I don't know why I was surprised to see her follow through with her desire to teach people the gospel.
In true Kailey fashion, you can see the joy and anticipation on her face as she is greeted by her MTC host.
"I'm finally here!"
It's now been three days since we took her to the MTC and I've written her a letter every day while I wait not so patiently for her to email me and tell me how her days are going.
Every day of her whole life we got the "play-by-play", "word-for-word" description of how her day went.
It's very difficult to be cut off from this type of "download", cold turkey.
She is always full of expression and emotion when she retells her stories.
I imagine that her first letter might contain a few hundred exclamation points, and a couple drawings of stick figures to demonstrate and explain the new friends in her life.
I'm so looking forward to going on this journey with Sister Kailey Chandler.
